Last week, Duolingo announced that it will be an "AI-first" company.

This idea will only accelerate.

So, what does this leave humans with?

One thing I see so often in my coaching practice is that my clients solely rely on their analytical minds to navigate their next steps.

Yes, critical and analytical thinking remain core skills - even in the age of AI.

But they are no longer uniquely human.

What AI can’t replicate is your presence, intuition, and meaning-making.

It’s not what you know or do.

It’s how you relate, sense and express.

It’s how well you can sit with ambiguity, ask better questions, see the nuances, sense what’s missing, identify possibility, hold presence, and connect with others.

All of this comes down to :

…. Your body state, your self-awareness of thoughts and emotions, and your ability to shift that state (rather than be driven by it).

…. Your ability to connect: being present and holding space for others to be seen and heard. How you make others feel. How you respond.

… Your ability to make meaning. First and foremost in your life, experiences and your story. But also of things happening: seeing possibility, sensing what’s missing, or dreaming what’s never been.

If I were to start building these skills today, this is what I’d do:

1. Build self-awareness through reflection:

Get curious about your patterns, values, fears, and longings.

Yoga, journaling, breathwork, or somatic check-ins are all ways to do that.

Learn to see the birds-eye view of your life and situation.

2. Develop emotional literacy & presence

Learn to name, feel, and express your emotions without judgment.
Use the Feeling Wheel if you need to.

Notice how your emotional state influences your interactions and the decisions you make. (go back to #1 for that).

Pay attention to others' body language, energy shifts and unspoken needs. Be present for the other person. You need to slow down enough to notice that. Mental fitness training is a great way to do that. (DM me for details)

Cultivate compassion and kindness. Loving-kindness meditation is a good start.

3. Align with your values and your identity

Identify your core values. Let go of any adopted values or aspirational ones.

Be honest with yourself. Notice what is important. What you care about.

Use your values as criteria when making choices, setting boundaries, and direction.

4. Creative expression

Spend time with your curiosity, creativity and intuition. Maybe you write, paint, knit, sing…

The best way: Expose yourself to new ideas (art, book, movies). Go the unfamiliar route. Step outside your usual inputs.

If you feel inclined, share your learning and insights out loud. Often, that helps in clarifying.

5. Set boundaries around digital noise

To hear ourselves, we need to cultivate tech-free time.

Allow the mind to go quiet. Don’t only put stuff into the brain. Let it integrate. Let it go quiet.

Choose depth in content consumption.

What do you think will be humans’ superpower in an AI-first world?
